Waco, Texas (March 1, 2015) – National Lloyds Corporation, a Waco-based insurance holding company, today joined forces with the Dr Pepper Museum and Free Institute to introduce a new learning program about business and entrepreneurship for local children. The organizations conducted a hands-on activity with students at South Waco Elementary to demonstrate the advantage of how children interact and learn from the curriculum.
National Lloyds partnered with the Dr Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute to promote both organizations’ focus on education. The Dr Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute discovered many schools do not have funds to bring children on a field trip to the Dr Pepper Museum. The organization will now offer educational opportunities through their Mobile Outreach Program. The new Mobile Outreach programs were created in response to the budget cuts encountered by school districts across Texas that makes transporting students to the museum for these classes cost prohibitive. The new programs were written with input from a broad range of to meet the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) requirements of K-12 schools.
With financial support from National Lloyds to update its traveling curriculum, the Dr Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute can now deliver education regarding business and entrepreneurship directly to the schools in a van created specifically for this purpose.
“We know that strong educational programs are the backbone of any community,” said Bob Otis, president and CEO of National Lloyds. “Partnering with the Dr Pepper Museum gives us the opportunity to inspire education in an innovative way that encourages a foundation for lifelong learning and success.”
According the Dr Pepper Museum Executive Director Jack McKinney, offering programs grounded in business practices to schools is more important today that ever. “The Free Enterprise Institute’s mission is to educate students of all ages about America’s Free Enterprise system. Americans enjoy an unprecedented level of freedom and standard of living, but few fully understand the principles of free enterprise, or why it is vital to the future of America’s youth. National Lloyds truly understands the importance of this work and we are proud to have them as our partner for this program.”
